NICHOLAS RULE (°1956)  One of Rule’s notable exhibitions was “Outside America: Going into the 90’s” at Fay Gold Gallery in Atlanta, GA in 1991. This exhibition marked the beginning of his career and showcased his unique artistic vision. Since then, Rule has participated in numerous group shows, including “Slow Art - Painting in New York Now” at MoMA PS1 in New York City in 1992. This exhibition highlighted Rule’s ability to create thought-provoking and visually captivating paintings. Throughout his career, Rule has been exhibited alongside esteemed artists such as Stephen Ellis and Dennis Oppenheim, further solidifying his position in the art world. His work has also been showcased in prestigious institutions such as Mamco - musée d’art moderne et contemporain in Geneva and Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. Rule’s artistic style is characterized by his ability to create intricate and layered compositions. His paintings often incorporate a mix of abstract and figurative elements, resulting in visually engaging and emotionally resonant artworks. Rule’s use of color and texture adds depth and complexity to his pieces, inviting viewers to explore the various layers of meaning within his work. In recent years, Rule’s career has seen significant growth and recognition. His most recent exhibition, “Acquired on eBay (and from other surrogate sources)” at Mitchell Algus Gallery in New York City in 2020, showcased his continued evolution as an artist. Luc Hoenraet

Luc Hoenraet is een Belgische kunstenaar die in 1941 te Aalst is geboren. Hij studeerde aan het Hoger instituut van Sint-Lucas in Schaarbeek. Luc Hoenraet is materieschilder, tekenaar, etser en lithograaf. Zijn werken kunnen het best beschreven worden als palimpsesten. Zo brengt hij eerst nauwgezet een achtergrondcompositie aan, waarna hij deze compositie gaat doorkrassen. Hoenraets werk behoort dan ook toe aan de lyrisch abstracte kunst, daar het werk spontaan - maar in zekere zin toch beredeneerd - tot stand komt. Om het gekraste effect te kunnen bekomen, vermengt Hoenraet zijn verf met zand, hars of andere materialen. Hoenraets oeuvre wordt gekenmerkt door het kruisteken, zowel in de universele als in de religieuze zin. Nu eens is het kruis mathematisch of puur plastisch, dan weer als teken van geloof, lijden of dood. Bovendien refereert Hoenraet met zijn werken ook aan graffiticultuur. Met zijn werk gaat hij daarom in tegen de opvatting dat graffiti, barsten, afbladdering en erosie tekenen van verval of smet zijn. De 'dode' materie komt in zijn werken als het ware tot leven. Samen met Hilde Van Sumere, Rik Poot en André Beullens behoorde Luc Hoenraet tot de Groep Vlaams Brabant.
